Welcome to my blog! Our brief this year was to create a short film, so we took on the task creating a short film with the genre of drama as our final product. We titled our film It's A Perfect Life. We have diarised all of our research, analysis and construction work that we completed during the process, and all my work can be located on my blog. All research I have constructed is presented through a number of different presentational platforms such as Canva, Piktochart and Emaze.

Editing:

I was involved with the majority of the editing process by using editing software apps such as FinalCut Pro and iMovie. I imported the clips we had taken on our camera onto the FinalCut Pro software and made the appropriate adjustments and added in any effects necessary to bring our film to life.

Directing:

We all shared an equal part in the directing of our short film, especially since each of us took a part in the acting, there was plenty of room for us to add our input into each scene and help direct it. We worked well as a team when deciding how we wanted our scenes to come across and how we wanted to convey emotion in our scenes.

Camera Work:

I took part in the camera work for the lot of the shots, I even had to do some filming alone of some of the scenes I was in, such as my character waking up in the morning. I had to make sure the camera remained in focus and captured the right frame work. I also did some tracking shots of when we were filming a car drive scene.

SHORT FILM: IT'S A PERFECT LIFE

CONSTRUCTION: CREATING OUR IDENT

We decided to name our production company after our own names because we wanted to incorporate each of us into our production - so our company is MMT Productions.

When creating our ident we decided to use a software app that we were familiar with, so decided to use iMovie and take full advantage of the templates that it offers. We decided to use an effect with a professional and bold looking, red font, so that our production company name can go noticed and leave an impact.

CONSTRUCTION: SOCIAL MEDIA

Marketing your film is obviously one of the most crucial things to do to encourage the public and your target audience, so taking full advantage of free marketing such as social media accounts, which the average person has access to, is a very effective and modern tactic of marketing. The Huff Post remarks that social media made it possible for the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer to gain over 1 million views in the first 23 minutes.

Therefore we thought it was important to advertise our own short film across social media platforms to interact with our audience and keep them up to date with updates on the short film, clips from the short film and behind the scenes photos to make our short film as interactive as possible.

CONSTRUCTION: BBFC CERTIFICATE

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is a non-government organisation, founded by the film industry in 1912 and is responsible for the national classification and censorship of films exhibited at cinemas and other video productions.

We decided to certify our film at an age restriction of 15. We think this is the appropriate rating for our film, as some scenes in our film show domestic violence and abuse which some younger viewers may find distressing.

The BBFC has classified that an age 15 certificate would involve violent behaviour that could be copied by more impressionable children. Again, this violence is shown through the character, Jay who has a tendency to act violently towards our main protagonist, Madison.

When creating the BBFC certificate, we used a 15 rating template we found online. Using Photoshop we copied a black box and pasted it onto the original name for this certificate. Then we changed the front of the text to be much larger and become bold to fit our theme. We also changed what was said on the film certificate itself, such as changing 'nudity' to 'disturbing scenes'.

CONSTRUCTION: WOMEN'S AID

We created our film strategically so that it could tell a story whilst bringing awareness to important social issues, in this case, domestic abuse. We did not want to create a film which touched on such a sensitive issue without bringing awareness to the helplines and websites available to those who are suffering from domestic abuse. The slide appears at the end of our film.

We created the slide on Photoshop and decided to include the organisation that we were researching which was Women's Aid, who offer help to both females and children who are suffering from abuse, as well as several other help lines.
